The Belgian town of Mont-Saint-Guibert, 30 km from Brussels is hosting TRIPLE during the first part of the pilot phase for this innovative local wireless mesh network which uses satellite for backhaul. The next part will be in Kigali. On exhibition will be security, ITS and other internet-based applications TRIPLE supports. TRIPLE is an example of both public-private and local-level cooperation between Europe and Africa for development. It is for the moment privately funded through contributions by numerous partnering organizations, including leading satellite operator Eutelsat, MAC Telecom, Group4 Securicor, Icoms Detections, the Catholic University of Louvain's IT engineering department, investment group ISSAL and Vitrociset. Deployment in Kigali promises to pave the way for a radical improvement in ICT provision in Africa, especially for the over 450 million people in Africa currently excluded from the information society revolution.
